I-Octane is a jamaican singer and songwriter who specialises in the Reggae and Dancehall genres. He was born Byiome Muir on April 29, 1984 in Sandy Bay Clarendon.
Early Beginnings
He began his musical career in 2000 under the name Richie Rich. His earliest singles include “Oh Jah” and “Stepp A Seed” which were produced by Donovan Germaine of Penthouse Records
In 2005 he left Penthouse and to join Arrow recording company. He also changed his artistic name to I-Octane. He had his first major hit at Arrow in 2007 with “Stab Vampire” which surged to the top of several charts in Jamaica. In 2009 he rose to prominece on the Jamaican music scene when he topped the charts with “Mama You Alone” and “Lose A Friend”.
In 2009 I-Octane left Arrow and teamed up with producer Robert Livingston. He released the singles “No Love Inna Dem”, “Puff It” and “My Life” which became major dancehall hits in 2010 and 2011.
His Own Record Label
In 2011 he formed a record label called Conquer The Globe Production. The first major project of his new record label included the release of an LP in December 2011, called “Straight From The Heart”. The LP includes the hit single “Burn Dem Bridge”.
In February 2012 I-octane released his debut album, “Crying To The Nation”. Following the release of the album he went on extensive tours of Canada, Carribean, Asia and Europe.
In 2014 he released his second album called “My Journey”.
Awards
In 2013 he won two awards issued by Youth View Magazine: one of Jamaica’s major youth magazines. He won the Youth View Award for Cultural Artiste of the year and was joint winner with Olympian Usain Bolt for Role Model of the Year.
