Chronixx, is a reggae singer and songwriter born Jamar Rolando McNaughton on October 10, 1992 in Spanish Town St Catherine.
Being the son of reggae singer Chronicle, he grew up among many popular reggae artistes such as Gregory Isaacs, Burro Banton and Norris Man
The Reggae Revival Movement
Chronixx is considered one of the pioneers of the new wave of reggae musicians which is widely known in Jamaica as the Reggae Revival Movement. It is a movement which recaptures the rooots reggae sound and mood. It includes reggae singers/musicians such as Protoje, Jesse Royal, Dre Island, Jah9, Kabaka Pyramid and Raging Fyah band
Early Years
In 2003 he recorded his first song, which is yet to be released, with producer Danny Browne. He also provided harmony for reggae singer Lutan Fyah. His main focus however was on music production. He assisted in the production of rhythms for dancehall artistes such as Konshens, Munga Honourable and Popcaan. One of his early work included the Freezer Riddim for Ice Box Records
Reggae Vocalist
In 2009 he took a decision to channel his energies as a vocalist. It was then that he met producer Romaine “Teflon” Arnett of Zincfence Records
In 2010 he released a 7 track EP, “Hooked On Chronixx”. It featured songs such as “Start A Fyah”, “Capitalist”, “Behind Curtains” and “Warrior” which became favourites among reggae fans in Jamaica.
His popularity surged and by 2012 his songs were receiving regular airplay on radio stations in Jamaica. In August of 2012 he performed at Reggae Sumfest, one of the biggest reggae shows in Jamaica. He also made an appearance as guest performer at Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records Nightclub and Restaurant in Kingston.
In 2013 he had his first major hits with “Smile Jamaica” and “Here Comes Trouble”. That year he had his first international concert tour where he toured Europe and United States with Zincfence Redemption Band. He also had two performances in Kenya.
On April 1, 2014 he released the Dread and Terrible Project. The project included an EP which featured the hit single “Here Comes Trouble”. It consisted of 7 tracks and 3 dub versions. On the week of April 18, the EP reached number one on the US Billboard Top Reggae Album charts and spent 42 consecutive weeks in the top ten. It also topped the ITunes reggae chart.
The project also included a short film based on the track “Rastaman Wheel Out”. The film was produced by director Ras Kasa.
Capture Land Tours
In March 2015, he had his first major concert tour in Jamaica. The tour called the Capture Land Tour took place in Negril (Westmoreland), St Elizabeth, Kingston and Portland.
The Capture Land Tour was also extended to the United States between April 22 to June 20. He toured California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Washington DC.
Chronixx will do his second Capture Land tour of Jamaica from December 18 to 20 where he will tour his hometown Spanish Town, Manchester and Trelawny.
Pioneer tour in Jamaica
Chronixx with his Capture Land concert tour of Jamaica, is the first reggae artiste to have ever done a concert tour of the cradle of Reggae.
He is rapidly emerging as one of the most accomplished contemporary reggae artiste since 2010. There are many who believe that his talent will propel him to become one of the great reggae singer to continue the legacy of reggae icon Bob Marley
