Jah9 born Janine Cunningham on November 23, 1983 in the town of Falmouth, Trelawny, Jamaica. She is a songwriter and reggae singer whose style is a fusion of Jazz and dub.
Early Years
As the daughter of a baptist minister, she started singing in church and also in school. She became exposed to the teachings of Rastafari through her friends, while she was attending University in Kingston.
The Reggae Revival Movement
Jah9 has become one of the most powerful female voices in Jamaican music and is considered one of the pioneers of the new wave of reggae musicians which is widely known in Jamaica as the Reggae Revival Movement. It is a movement which includes Reggae singers/musicians such as Protoje,Chronixx, Dre Island, Jesse Royal, Kabaka Pyramid and Raging Fyah band.
Debut Album
In 2013 she released her first studio album called “New Name”
