Kabaka Pyramid born Keron Salmon, is a Jamaican musician from Kingston who specialises in the dancehall and reggae genres. He is a singer, song writer, guitar player and producer. His lyrical style includes a blend of Reggae, dancehall and hip hop.
Kabaka is a Ugandan name which means King.
Career
His earliest songs include “Carry On” and “Never Be The Same”
In July 2011 he released his first LP “Rebel Music”. He has since followed with another LP called “Lead the Way” which was released in November 2013 and debuted at #9 on the Billboard reggae charts. It has also featured on the top ten Itunes reggae chart.
In Jamaica he has performed at major reggae shows such as Dennis Brown’s Tribute Concert, Trench Town Rock and Rebel Salute. He has also performed and has done tours in countries such as Costa Rica, United States, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, Austria, Netherlands and in Spain at the Rototom festival.
Reggae Revival Movement
Though his style is primarily a fusion of Reggae and dancehall, Kabaka Pyramid has been credited with being among the pioneers of a new wave of young reggae musicians belonging to a movement which is widely known in Jamaica as the Reggae Revival Movement. It is a movement which has recaptured the Roots reggae sound and mood. It includes reggae singers/musicians such as Protoje, Jesse Royal, Dre Island, Jah9, Chronixx and Raging Fyah band
Achievements
In 2013 he won the award for Breakthrough Artist of the year by the Jamaican Reggae Industry Association.
