On February 26,2013 VP Records released Etana’s third masterpiece “A Better Tomorrow”. Recorded at Kingston’s legendary Tuff Gong Studio, and produced by Shane C. Brown of Kingston’s Juke Boxx Productions, it is her most confident and cohesive work to date.
The official album launch to took place in Kingston on March 6, 2013.
“I wanted this album to feel like a concert performance and have everything go together, like chapters in a book, with all of the tracks played live by musicians (not digitally generated),” Etana explained.
Brown brilliantly executes Etana’s vision. “On the very first conversation we had about the project, Shane totally got what I was going for,” Etana continued. “Every session we would talk about how the songs were supposed to sound, how the drums and bass should be and Shane definitely wanted the music to go in the same direction I did.”
The title track “A Better Tomorrow” urges the celebration of life’s blessings that often times are taken for granted. “A time to sing a brand new song, no more hungry children, no more tears,” Etana wails over an persuasive reggae-dance rhythm that builds into a vigorous percussive break, accented by layers of African inspired choral chants.
