Jesse Royal also known as the “Small Axe” is a reggae singer, born Jesse David Leroi Grey on April 14, 1989, in St James, Jamaica. He grew up in a rural village called Maroon Town. In the late 1990’s he moved to Kingston where he met David Marley (son of Ziggy Marley) at school. Their friendship has helped to inspire Jesse’s interest in music.
The Reggae Revival Movement
Jesse Royal is considered one of the pioneers of the new wave of reggae musicians which is widely known in Jamaica as the Reggae Revival Movement. It is a movement which recaptures the rooots reggae sound and mood. It includes Reggae singers/musicians such as Protoje, Chronixx, Dre Island, Jah9, Kabaka Pyramid and Raging Fyah band
New Album
Jesse is currently in studio preparing his debut album. It’s a work which involves Sly Dunbar, Robbie Shakespeare, Donald Dennis, Earl ‘Chinna’ Smith, Monty Savor and producer Kareem Burrell.
