Clement “Coxsone” Dodd is one of Jamaica’s greatest record producers. He was born in Kingston on January 26 1932 and died May 5, 2004

Dodd has produced artistes such as Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Marcia Griffiths, Bob Andy , Horace Andy, Delroy Wilson, Paragons, Alton Ellis, John Holt, Joe Higgs, Joseph Culture Hill, Burning Spear, Cornell Campbell, Sugar Minott and many others.

 

Studio One

In 1963 he established the Jamaican Recording and Publishing Studio at 13 Brentford Road in Kingston which eventually became known as the famous Studio One studio and record label. Studio One has been very influential in the development of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae during the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Honours

On May 1, 2004, in honour of the outstanding achievements of Coxsone’s Studio One in the field of music, the government of Jamaica renamed Brentford Road as Studio One Boulevard.

Coxsone died of a heart attack  4 days later while working at Studio One.
