Ken Boothe

Ken Boothe born Kenneth George Boothe, is a vocalist and songwriter of Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae genres. He was born in Kingston on March 22, 1948.

 

Musical Career

The year 1963, Boothe began his musical career when he formed a Ska Duo with Winston Stranger Cole called Stranger and Ken. The first song made by the duo was “Uno Dos Tres” and one of their greatest hits was “Artibella” (1965).

In 1966 just when the Rocksteady sound began to emerge in Jamaica he recorded his first solo record with Clement Coxsone Dodd of Studio One, a song called “Feel Good All Over”. He also recorded a hit with Wailers called “The Train Is Coming”  during that same year.

in 1968 he recorded his first album “Mr Rock Steady” which produced many of his greatest hits such as “Home, Home, Home”, “I Don’t Want To See You Cry”,  “Puppet On A String”, “The Girl I Left Behind” and “When I Fall In Love”.

His greatest international hit came in 1974 with the song “Everything I Own” which soared to number one on the UK chart. The song  was originally written and performed  by David Gates of the Rock group Bread  who could only manage to peak this song at number 32 on the 1972 UK chart.
