Ska music was originated in Jamaica in the late 1950’s. It is a fusion of the Jamaican Mento music with American Jazz and Rhythm and Blues. It is Jamaica’s first indigenous commercial music and was made popular in the early 1960’s.
The first recorded Ska music was Easy Snappin by Thephillus Beckford in 1959.
The first international Ska hit was “My Boy Lollipop” by Millie Small in 1964 which climbed to number 2 on the UK and US charts
